Overview

Diploma in English Language and Literature is a one-year academic programme designed to meet the needs of students who wish to enhance their English language and communication skills. This programme also introduces students to the major literary genres: poetry, fiction and drama. It will be of special interest to those in the ELT profession, writers and journalists, and those who wish to engage in higher studies.

General

Admission

Candidates must possess one of the following:

1. obtained 3 passes at the GCE Advanced Level and/or passed any foundation course offered by the Open University of Sri Lanka & passed the Selection Test for the above programme conducted by the Department of Language Studies
2. passed the OUSL Certificate in Professional English (after 2012), with a minimum of 3 “C” passes
3. passed the OUSL Advanced Certificate in English for Business & Professional Communication Stage II, with the following minimum passes: “B+” in Reading and Writing, and “B-” in Business Communication Skills and Speech & Listening.
4. an equivalent or any other higher qualification acceptable to the Senate of the OUSL
